The decree no: 2020-0407 of May 30, 2020 has postponed coming in force of the Divorce Act modifications for 9 months:
Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of Justice, pursuant to subsection 126(1) of An Act to amend the Divorce Act, the Family Orders and Agreements Enforcement Assistance Act and the Garnishment, Attachment and Pension Diversion Act and to make consequential amendments to another Act, chapter 16 of the Statutes of Canada, 2019, amends Order in Council P.C. 2019-1143 of August 7, 2019 by replacing “July 1, 2020” with “March 1, 2021”.
Sur recommandation du ministre de la Justice et en vertu du paragraphe 126(1) de la Loi modifiant la Loi sur le divorce, la Loi d’aide à l’exécution des ordonnances et des ententes familiales et la Loi sur la saisie-arrêt et la distraction de pensions et apportant des modifications corrélatives à une autre loi, chapitre 16 des Lois du Canada (2019), Son Excellence la Gouverneure générale en conseil modifie le décret C.P. 2019-1143 du 7 août 2019 en remplaçant « 1er juillet 2020 » par « 1er mars 2021 ».
The changes into the Divorce Act are not in force yet. They were meant to become in force on July 1, 2020, but are now postponed and in the circumstances it is not clear if this next date will be observed.
